Support Groups Here at the Center
We provide a safe space where youth and young adults can find acceptance and a friendly atmosphere. Our support groups are peer-led and offer all participants an opportunity to express themselves, to speak in to the room and to be heard and encouraged.
Wednesdays
The Real Read – Our weekly Community meeting group that discusses current topics.
Thursdays
TYA – Transgender Youth Association – A weekly support group for transgendered youth and young adults participants.
Young Women’s Group – A weekly support group for our young female participants.
Fridays
Young Men’s group – A weekly support group for young male participants.
Mpowerment Groups
NYA Boys (Not Your Average) Ages 14 – 20
The VIP Lounge Ages 21+
These are our social networking group for those who are gay, bisexual, transgender, are questioning their sexual orientation, identify as queer, or are straight allies or urban youth and young adults. We are committed to creating a safe, supportive, positive young men’s community where all are welcomed to explore their feelings and experiences, and to meet other young people. ALL are welcomed and affirmed!
We will engage young men with a variety of fun and exciting recreational, social and informative events designed to foster and nurture growth and promote an understanding of the Community. This peer led group will help all in becoming more comfortable with themselves, their unique and fabulous selves.
Mpowerment Group Goals:
- Provide a safe, supportive, and respect-filled space for young urban men to come and share experiences, feelings, and concerns.
- Provide a place for young people to meet others, have fun, participate in special events, talk, and make friends.
- Provide an atmosphere for positive interaction, engagement, communications that helps with self-awareness, esteem and identity.
- Encourage leadership development.
- Provide opportunities for social and recreational events to promote community awareness and responsibility.
- Address pressing issues confronting young urban youth and young adults in group discussions and interaction.
