SMAAC Youth Center provides a full range of services for LGBTQQ youth. All activities are closely supervised by staff and volunteers to ensure that the safety (psychological as well as physical) of the “safe space” facility is preserved.

These include:

  • A Life Skills training Program (including employment prep & substance abuse awareness & prevention to LGBTQQ youth;
  • A small referral based GED training program that provides training to LGBTQQ youth;
  • A large number of recreational resources including card games, board games, group party games, computer games, indoor sport activities and periodic weekend socials/parties for LGBTQQ youth;
  • Opportunities for agency leadership to LGBTQQ youth through participation on its Youth Advisory Council and its Board of Directors, as well as through employment at the agency;
  • The encouragement of participation of LGBTQQ youth on civic planning bodies;
  • Support groups that provide an opportunity for sexually diverse youth to share ideas and feelings, to vent, and to fashion peer generated solutions to problems brought to the group by individual members;
  • Health education and health services, including substance abuse prevention services, HIV prevention services, community health outreach services and mental health services;
  • A computer lab, where youth learn computer skills, including keyboard skills and facility with operating systems, word processing, spreadsheet programs, educational and recreational computer programs, and online research.

  • The NYA Group (our 14 – 20 year old young men’s Mpowerment Social and Educational Group)
