This was the second poker book I ever read. The first was a thick book full of odds and complicated strategies. It didn't do much for me. This wonderfully written gem, on the other hand, offers a simple and elegant approach to playing poker for fun. It focuses not on endless statistics like many books - things you'll never remember like what are the chances you'll draw that inside straight - but on the interpersonal dynamics of the poker table. I reread this book each time I play. Each time it helps me remember to read the table before settling on a strategy for the night and before I worry about my cards. This book teaches you that it is far more important to know how the people around are playing than to know the exact odds of getting an ace in the hole. It may sound a bit cold, but because most people play poker for fun and pay little attention to what they are doing, the player who is interested in winning and who is willing to play with some discipline can win with surprising regularity. I highly recommend this book to anyone who plays regularly and wants to enjoy the game (and win) more.
